Dr. Karen, DVM
Dr. Karen Young was born in Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Duncanville, Texas. During her undergrad years at Texas A&M, she began hearing about Christian Veterinary Mission (CVM) and the veterinarians serving in various countries around the world. She attended vet school with the desire to work with CVM after graduation. Just a few months after graduating in 2001, she heard about a small animal clinic in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This seemed like a dream come true, and it indeed was! Dr. Karen oversaw the small animal clinic and trained Mongolia veterinarians and vet students from 2003-2013. She then returned to Texas and worked as a relief vet for several clinics, including Sanford Oaks. After working at Sanford Oaks for over a year, she became the owner and now serves as medical director.
Dr. Karen has reason to reflect fondly on 2020 as she recently got married in the fall of 2020. She lives with her husband and her stepdaughter.
Dr. Esther, DVM
Dr. Esther Grissom was born and raised in Euless, Texas. She graduated from veterinary school in 1992 from Texas A&M University. She was an associate veterinarian at a small animal clinic in Arlington until 2002, when she began doing relief work in the DFW area. Relief work has allowed her to meet and work with many talented people in the veterinary field, and she is happy to enable busy practice owners time to rest and recharge.
She enjoys bicycling, reading, baking, doing Snapfish photo projects, and hiking in her free time.
Dr. Grissom has been with Sanford Oaks Animal Clinic since October 2017.
Dr. Jennifer, DVM
Dr. Jennifer Benton graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Clinics have employed her in Waco, Houston, and DFW throughout her career. She currently works part-time at several different clinics in the DFW area, and on Tuesdays, she enjoys performing surgeries on our patients here at Sanford Oaks. Her professional interests include educating new puppy/kitten owners on methods for their new pets to become good companions, animal behavior, communication with owners about what is happening with their pets, and general medicine and surgery.
When not working, Dr. Benton greatly enjoys her family, which includes her husband Matt, four sons (Zachariah, Nate, Garrick, and Kayd), two dogs (Stryder and Abby), and two cats (Luxa and Arwen). Home-schooling her boys has been a new and exciting experience, with everyone learning a lot. The family enjoys Bible studies, camping, bicycling, fishing, exploring, reading, sports, and getting dirty.
Becky, Practice Manager
Becky was born and raised in the heart of Cajun country – Eunice, Louisiana. Her love of science and animals helped her decide on a career in the veterinary field. She is a graduate of the Veterinary Technology program at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and has enjoyed working in several states, including Louisiana, Hawaii, California, and now, Texas.
In her free time, Becky enjoys photography. She and her husband share their home with two rescues, a Beagle/Terrier mix named Bailey and a Corgi mix named Molly.
Becky has been with Sanford Oaks Animal Clinic as a Veterinary Technician and now as a Practice Manager since July 1991.
Tammy, CSR
Tammy was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and now lives in Duncanville. She has always had a deep love for animals and started working in veterinary clinics in 1997. She has since worked in vet clinics in West Virginia, Ohio, and Texas.
She married her husband Danny in December 2006. Tammy has a daughter, Crystal, three grown granddaughters, Hannah, Sierra, and Kayla, and two great-grandchildren, Ivy and Zayne. Tammy and Danny share their home with their seven dogs: Nibbles, Clark, Elsie, Dusty, Honey Mae, Jax, and Bonnie. In her free time, Tammy enjoys reading, coloring in adult coloring books, and rescuing and helping animals when she can.
Tammy has been with Sanford Oaks Animal Clinic as a Veterinary Assistant and now, as a Receptionist, since September 2006.
Tawney, CSR & Veterinary Technician
Tawney was born in California and moved to Texas in 1990. She is fairly new to veterinary medicine and is excited to see where it takes her.
She and her husband Josh have been married for 22 years and have an adult son named Josh. They share their home with their four dogs: Ralphie, Daisy Mae, Pickles, and Gypsy, who range in size from 10lbs to over 120lbs, and their grand cat: Lily. Tawney also has four large aquariums: a shark tank, a cichlid tank, a betta tank, and a tropical tank. Tawney enjoys helping people and going to flea markets, thrift stores, and dog parks. Her favorite color is yellow and she loves sunflowers.
